Originally from the St. Louis area, in 2005, Kristin, with her husband, JD, and daughter, Charlotte, moved to Shanghai, China. With hesitation (aka— kicking and screaming), Kristin resigned from her university teaching position, closed her family therapy practice, and embarked on the experience of a lifetime. In China, JD went to work, Charlotte started pre-school, and Kristin took to the streets of Shanghai. Through these daily excursions—with great new friends—the idea of “Big Sky Shanghai” was born.
Kristin’s goal is to bring fresh Asian designs to the American marketplace. With quality and an Asian flare, “Made in China” is taking on its former greatness. For thousands of years, China has produced the finest quality the world has known— porcelain, silk, embroidery work- this reputation returns through the craftsmanship of Big Sky Shanghai products. Inspired by local women who have spent generations refining their craft, Kristin recognized the beauty and artistry in the accessories offered by Shanghai vendors. Kristin began designing handbags—refining them for the US marketplace. What initially began as gifts for family and close friends evolved into “Big Sky Shanghai.”In 2006, she partnered with Shanghai artisans to bring you the best quality that Asia has to offer. Acknowledging the influence of Asia in the settling of the American West, Big Sky Shanghai is a historically fitting union: “Where west meets east,” you’ll find Big Sky Shanghai.
